According to the Alaska Airlines, designed to symbolize remembrance, pride, and appreciation, this special livery was conceived by a small group of its maintenance technicians and created in partnership with Boeing to honor the brave men and women of the US military, as well as veterans of the armed forces and their families. The Boeing 737-900 falls under the category of Boeing's 737 Next Generation aircraft, abbreviated 737NG, and was launched as the third-generation derivative of the 737 Classic. Substantially redesigned with numerous updates to the 737 Classic, the 737NGs primary competitor is the Airbus A320 series. The Boeing 737-900, for whom Alaska Airlines was the launch airline in 1997, and accepted delivery in 2001, has a slightly longer fuselage than the 737-800 and can be typically configured to generally seat between 177 and 189 passengers. Boeing delivered its final 737NGs in January 2020, having replaced it with the fourth-generation 737MAX, which was introduced in 2017.
