Pan Am was the launch customer for the Boeing 707, which went into service in October 1958 with its first scheduled flight from New York Idlewild - now JFK - to Paris Le Bourget, with a stop at Gander to refuel. The Boeing 707 was developed as a long range, intercontinental, narrow body aircraft that could carry approximately 200-passengers, and has not only been credited with having initiated the jet age, it was also the most popular jetliner of its time.
